Leaving for NZ in a few hours *SQUEE* though at the moment all I have is the icky feeling in my stomach I get every time I fly because I hate it. I've done it so much recently I'm usually okay with it once I'm ON the plane, it's just the lead up to it that makes me feel ill.

BUT at the end of it there will be lovely people and THEN a terrifying, soul-quaking interview, and then more lovely people. So worth it.

I just looked at my friend Daniel's photos of London and I totally sobbed into my Pepsi Max (I'm sure that's the non-drinker's version of sobbing into a light beer ;)) and I WANT TO GO BACK, DANGIT! NOW!

I'm sure I'll sob over Clare's Vienna photos too ;) SO JEALOUS, ALL OF YOU! I live in one of the awesomest places on the planet (thanks very much) but the damn grass is always greener, isn't it? Specifically since YOU ALL CAN WATER YOURS ;)

I organised a sweep at work for the Melbourne Cup (early because a lot of people are taking Monday off) and we were drawing horse names today. Cassie pulled a name out of the Mickey Mouse hat and she laughed and yelled "HAH! Think Monkey!"

I sighed and said, "honey, that says 'Think Money'."

Her reply, a rather crestfallen: "...Oh. That's not as funny." Which is true! Still, I was very amused. And then I walked across the busy city street to the campus to let the student centre peeps draw names. Carrying the Mickey Mouse hat. I got SO many strange looks and I just waved :D

Oh, and today our house WASN'T attacked by a wayward swarm of crazy flying ant-things!

Oh my god, it was awesome. The SONGS and the DANCES and the singers and musicians and Michael and oh oh oh it was amazing.

Yes. That is about it. Everyone was SO silent when anything was happening. And they CLAPPED at the end. For you non-Aussies out there, Australian audiences in movie theatres are not generally very receptive unless it's a special event (Star Wars opening with the Skyforce peeps)... I have gone to several comedies and been one of the only ones laughing because I'm American and that's what you do. They CLAPPED and cheered at the end and these three guys jumped up to give a tearful standing ovation which was too cute. And now I feel all warm and fuzzy inside despite the swarm of invading, flying ants I came home to :D

I totally bought this chai powder from the shop and it rocks my world, m'kay?

Also new powder inhaler seems to be somewhat more effective now. Meaning I have enough oxygen to SPEAK which is INCREDIBLE, RIGHT?! :| So maybe it just needed a little while to get it's act together or whatever. It's still not perfect :P~~~ but here's hoping.

Oh, chaaaiiiiii.... If only I had a machine with which to froth my milk. My inner barista is screaming for attention :D

Also? Last night? I hurt my neck trying to breathe! Stupid asthma. Now I can't turn my head left. :| So I went to the doctor AGAIN for the third time in a freakin month to get my lungs sorted out. And they tell me "Oh, yeah, the inhalers you have been on would have opened your airways, sure, but they wouldn't have reduced any mucus in your lungs. Which is why you would feel better for a while and then worse again. So here, let's prescribe you with an inhaler that will do both.

WHY COULDN'T YOU HAVE DONE THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE! I feel better now, but if I get worse in two weeks again I am going to CRACK IT AND HAVE A HISSY FIT THE SIZE OF EUROPE :D I spent the entire night awake, struggling to breathe. Blah cubed.

But I did get a free swine flu vaccination because I am in the risk factor group meaning if I did get it, I could suffer from complications. YAY free things! And since injections are like...one of the few things people are normally afraid of that I do NOT fear, this pleased me. Because I am strange.

Today on Facebook, someone who shall remain nameless pointed out that my fiction is strange to them. She was complimenting it, but said the 'Antichrist stuff seems a little weird'.

Thank you. Thank you for pointing out the obvious and yet still completely missing the point.

It's supposed to be absurd!

My Peter Kemp is a complete dork. Heroic in an unheroic way, yes. Amazingly gifted at saving people from themselves? Yes. Incredibly intelligent and resourceful, yes. The Antichrist? No. He is a man who knows about eleven languages and spends most of his time reading ancient tomes. He first kissed a girl when he was twenty-four. The fact that a group of religious nutcases think he is the Antichrist because they saw him survive through his head being chopped off is absurd! It's meant to point out that, when faced with something people don't understand, they will jump to whatever conclusions happen to fit in their little construct of the world. These cultists (sure, in the basest sense, they're Catholic but they're also INSANE, keep that in mind) saw something they didn't understand because they don't know about immortality, and they attributed Peter with a role he does not fit into.

The Templar are akin to those nutcases who try to force their beliefs on others and say things like "GOD TALKED TO ME THROUGH MY TICKLE ME ELMO! HE SAID AHHAHAHHAHAHHAHHEHEHEHHHOHOHOOHOHAHHAHHHEHEHEHHHOHOHOOO" and you back away slowly. Except the Templar happen to be armed with lovely inquisitorial tactics to get across their beliefs. It's hard to say "no, you're insane" when you're hanging from a rack. That's why the Catholics (for one) used to DO IT. The idea of Peter being the Antichrist is supposed to feel like a false note, because it is. Peter is the victim of a group of religious fanatics. Not religion, not Catholicism. Fanaticism. The people I believe to be the most dangerous in our world, and they can be any religion, creed, order...anything. I just happen to write mine as an offshoot of insane Catholics because Peter was a priest before he left the clergy. IT IS IN NO WAY AT ATTACK ON THE CATHOLIC CHURCH OR RELIGION ITSELF.

Might I also add it's urban fantasy. There are supposed to be fantastical things in there. Demons, vampires, werewolves, whatever. The Antichrist, however, does not happen to be included. Like in Buffy, these beings are metaphors and symbols for something else. Peter would like to state for the record, that he's just a man who is suffering for other people's beliefs. Something that happens far too often. My writing (at least the Templar story arcs) are symbolic of that on purpose. And the only way I can express my displeasure about that, is with my fiction. So if you don't get it, don't read it.

Seriously though, if I ever were to publish this stuff and the Pope banned it, I'd be one happy chippy. :D "BAN ME, YOUR POPEYNESS! For I wish to be a best seller KTHXBAI!"

Lewi and I went out to eat tonight. I know OoooOOoooo date omg!!1! Anyway, the following occurred as we were walking to the restaurant. Technically as we were stopped at an intersection waiting to cross the street.

Me: "HOMG!" *points at the seemingly empty road in wonder, mouth wide open*
Lewi: "What?"
Me: "A bird totally just pooed SO big and it landed there! HAHAHHAHAHA!"

I didn't wake up on time this morning! I still managed to get to work 5 minutes before nine, thanks to the lovely Lewi. But usually I am an hour early, so this was most distressing. I have to say though...it feels like I've been here for about ten minutes, and it's already almost 2, which leaves only 3 hours left.

Maybe I should sleep in every day?! (Watch Lewi negate this 'plan' with utter vehemency.)

My brother suggests that if you ARE on a campus where this little book giveaway happens, take the books, rip out the first fifty pages and redistribute. That way you're simply passing along literature and not a fundie diatribe.

PS regardless of Darwin's attitude towards women, people of other races, or a Nazi leader who lived AFTER HIS DEATH, that does not mean his theory of natural selection is not scientifically sound. Also, I had a dream I was in Tim Burton's new Alice movie. Ahhahah that was entertaining. Really though, I can't wait for it. Anyone who has ACTUALLY READ the freakin' novel will know Burton is pretty much the only person who will be able to do a movie adaptation correctly. I watched the Disney one once and wanted to throw it out the window. And I do LOVE the Natalie Gregory one (Carol Channing is also in it, and it's worth watching, just for her manscreams) but it's still not right. The book is CREEPY. Not a kid's book.

I am looking forward to this with great anticipation!

I was born in Seattle. I know how to eat seafood. I have gone crabbing, steamed the crabs, shelled them, and then eaten them. I have done all of it myself. And tonight while trying to eat a crab, I SHOT PIECES OF IT INTO MY EYE LIKE A FREAK!

But I'm listening to Fountains of Wayne and they're bouncy :D And really, it was hilarious. It hurt SOOOOOO very much, but I couldn't.stop.laughing.

Today? I answered the phone, "Lara Moses, this is Fees speaking." And then I tried not to die laughing while talking to a student who was severely confused. I'm never going to live this one down, though I did take the opportunity to shout, "That's right, I AM FEES" to my coworkers (who were sniggering) when I had finished the conversation.

Ahhahahahaa oh god, me.

And then I ran into a divider, and while walking to lunch, I almost twisted my ankle in a pothole on Smith Street.

I am AWESOME today, but at least I'm in a pretty good mood anyway!
